24 September 2024
An exciting new programme of events launches at More Music this September, with gigs to watch, sessions to get involved with and the ever-popular West End Lantern Procession.
Find out more about More Music's exciting new programme of events.
Reimagined folk music kick-starts the programme on Friday 20th September, with BBC Radio 3’s awarding-winning percussionist Delia Stevens and triple BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician of the Year nominee Will Pound - a trad folk harmonica and melodeon player, supported by Me Lost Me, whose songwriting blends electronic folk with storytelling and art pop.
The popular West End Lantern Procession is free to watch and participate in, and makes a great start to an evening before heading inside More Music’s centrally-located venue for Baked A La Ska; the “heavy heavy sound” of Manchester, promising a night of dancing with quirky upbeat British ska on Saturday 7th December.
Disco Neurotico reimagine raves for neurodivergent people and will bring to Morecambe all the colourful, bouncy fun of a traditional club night, but with enhanced safety and structure for those with anxiety issues, autistic sensitivities and anyone who finds live events a bit much. This will be a rave for those who love the idea of clubbing but struggle with the reality and clubbers can enjoy this experience, provided by a neurodivergent team, on Saturday 16th November.
Younger audiences and adults alike can experience Raven Tales, a popular interactive story show with songs, shadows and lots going on for children on Friday 25th & Saturday 26th October. Magic Islands of Music, which often sells out, is an interactive activity that blends singing, music, light, texture, colour and shadow to create a magical experience and audiences can enjoy this on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd February.
Later in the season audiences can unwind to the beautiful sounds of Indian classical music in a concert featuring two world-renowned masters of the genre. Sitar player and composer Jonathan Mayer has composed and performed across a variety of musical genres, and will be joined by Tabla player Kousic Sen, for a hypnotic, relaxing evening on Saturday 15th March.
As usual, alongside the gigs there are a whole host of opportunities to participate, from the popular Seagull Café for older adults, to On the Beat, our interactive sessions for learning disabled adults. Girls Can on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September, plus Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 March is aimed at young women from backgrounds and groups who are not typically represented in the music industry and is an opportunity to form bands, develop as artists, network, build skills in sound, lighting and studio engineering as well as develop confidence and music industry knowledge.
