Juice: A Solo Exhibition by Pat Flynn
Thursday 13th February 2025 to Saturday 8th March 2025
Second Act Gallery, 29 Sunbury Workshops, Swanfield Street, London E2 7LF

Juice is a lineup of selected works by Pat Flynn, linking the influential nature of faith, power & pseudo-sciences into our human relationships; through the use of familiar objects

Whilst referencing urban legends, critical artworks and pop culture, these works sit alongside deeply personal family fables. Flynn creates scenes that could be inhabited by false healer Peter Popoff; the man unveiled as the Wizard of Oz in it’s closing scenes; one of Hogarth’s subjects or
indeed his mother, daughter and the artist himself.
These scenes and stories act as modern folklore; metaphors for illusion, loss, convenient truths, false prophets and disconnection. While the works in ‘Juice’ sometimes appear sceptical, they also leave space for contemplation on the spiritual, societal, or personal connections we share and the things we choose to believe in to stay ‘Juiced.
PAT FLYNN
Pat Flynn is an artist based in Greater Manchester. His realistic, digitally-rendered work focuses on “how we understand ourselves in light of mass media and commodity: the seduction, security, rituals and belief systems that transpire from mass production and consumer culture”. His work draws on ideologies, processes, themes and sentiments found in Hollywood films, computer games, consumer goods and advertising.
THE GALLERY
THE SECOND ACT is a young contemporary gallery with roots in the North of England and East London. We deliver a programme with an emphasis on the inclusion of artists for the North; and also those from working class backgrounds to support the growth of a diverse eco-system of British artists.
We choose to work with artists who make contemporary art with challenging concepts, narratives and research; creating a roster of individuals who we believe, should all have the opportunity to write their own Second Act.
