Jahday Ford is a recent graduate from The Manchester School of Art specialising in hot glass and mould design. Using the combination of glass blowing and digital design the materiality of his glass objects changes radically, effectively bonding these two diverse fields.
His award winning project 'Breathe' has been exhibiting in galleries around the country including New Designers, London Design Junction, Manchester Craft & Design Centre and The National Centre for Craft & Design based in Lincolnshire.
"Glass behaves differently with every element or exterior surface its comes into contact with. With wood, metal, clay and digital processes I am able to explore new synergies between glass and other compatible materials. This creates forms and textures not possible by traditional hand-made techniques, therefore formulating innovative methods of glassmaking within my practice."
Jahday has previously exhibited work at the Bluecoat Display Centre in Liverpool and is featured in the October edition of House & Garden magazine.
The Black Artisans showcases and celebrates established UK based Black Artisans through a travelling photography exhibition. The project, initiated by photographer Jo Sealy, aims to enlighten, educate and inspire people to explore craft as a potential field of work - or as a leisure interest.
The Haworth Art Gallery known as one of Lancashire’s finest Arts & Crafts houses, provides a fitting venue for this inspiring exhibition which will be running until Sunday 6th October 2024.
A series of connected talks and events will be hosted during the exhibition run. Find out more here.
These Black Artisans events form part of Creative Lancashire's curated programme of presentations for Black History Month (UK)
