Northern Cultural Regeneration Fund - Call for Expressions of interest

The Government has also announced plans for a legacy fund to amplify the impact of the Exhibition and pave the way for future cultural investment in the North of England.

Alongside the Government plans for a Great Exhibition of the North, which will take place in the summer of 2018 in Newcastle Gateshead celebrating the great art, culture and design of the North of England, the Government has also announced plans for a legacy fund to amplify the impact of the Exhibition and pave the way for future cultural investment in the North of England.

Towns and cities across Northern England are being invited to bid for a share of a new £15 million Northern Cultural Regeneration Fund that sets out to help build a lasting regional legacy. The Fund will make grants of up to £4 million available to support major inspirational culture and tech capital projects that could have a transformational local effect, particularly in communities that have historically had low levels of cultural and creative investment, by increasing opportunities for people to experience, benefit and contribute to culture and creativity. Scheme proposers must be mindful that there will be no revenue funding available to support successful bids.

The first round of bids is open to the eleven Local Enterprise Partnerships across the North who are invited to each submit one bid to the Fund for a single capital project. It is anticipated that the Fund will support three or four large capital grants of around £3-4 million each over a three year period between 2018-2021. The deadline for final submissions is the end of November with successful projects announced in March 2018. A further round of funding may follow if all the available funds have not been committed.

This clearly presents an opportunity for all in Lancashire who are interested in delivering sustainable, culturally led regeneration projects of a capital nature and the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is therefore inviting submissions from organisations that can clearly demonstrate how their proposal meets the Fund criteria and will deliver the desired outcomes set out by the Fund. The LEP will seek to take a strategic view on all submissions received to determine which proposal presents the strongest opportunity for Lancashire and which, with their support, can be further developed and put forward to Government as the county’s LEP endorsed bid.

Submissions should be made using the proforma (download here). Cultural organisations are encouraged, wherever possible, to liaise with their local authority partners, as a potential vehicle for response, and to ensure that proposals clearly connect with the area's local strategic development plans.

Further information about the Northern Cultural Regeneration Fund is also available via download the PDF guidelines here

Completed proformas should be sent via email for the attention of Ruth Connor, Chief Executive, Marketing Lancashire  and must be received by 12:00 noon on Friday 13th October 2017.
