Sources of Loan & Grant Funding

Transmit Start-Ups

Transmit Start-Ups provides finance, business support and mentoring for new businesses throughout the UK. It is run by entrepreneurs (who have run a number of creative businesses themselves) not ex-bank managers or accountants. It’s fair to say that we aren’t your typical enterprise agency.

Transmit Start-Ups is an official delivery partner of the Start-Up Loans Company and our Start Up Loans are designed to help you get your businesses up and running and are available to people living in England or Scotland.

Key Criteria for Start Up Loans:-  

  • You must be aged 18 or over
  • You must be based in England or Scotland*
  • The loans are unsecured personal loans
  • The loans can only be used for business purposes
  • We can provide loans of up to £25,000 per person
  • Our average loan size is £6,000
  • Each business founder (partner, director or shareholder) can apply for a separate loan
  • Repayments are made over a period of 1 to 5 years and have a fixed interest rate of 6%

Access to Finance - North West

The NW Access to Finance Service is delivered by a team of highly experienced Specialist Finance Advisors, providing an impartial, confidential and professional service to businesses. The funding structure enables A2F to provide services completely FREE OF CHARGE to eligible small to medium size businesses based in the North West.

The North West Fund - Digital and Creative

The fund provides a flexible equity package for growth orientated businesses operating within the Digital & Creative sector and provides finances to businesses seeking finance to support a broad range of needs from start-up and early stage development through to expansion plans for trading businesses. In return, the Fund Manager will require an equity share in the business.

Rosebud Loan Fund

Run by Lancashire County Council, Rosebud is a complete financial solution whether as a loan or equity based funding option starting from £50,000 to over £1 million. The project aims to support businesses whether they are starting up or expanding and who show ambition and innovation in their growth plans.

Bolton Business Ventures

The Small Loans for Business scheme is designed to help Northwest business owners, entrepreneurs, charities and social enterprises start up and expand their businesses.
It provides small loans of between £3,000 and £50,000 to new and growing businesses, charities and social enterprises. It was set up to encourage and make it easier for more people to start up and grow their own enterprises in the region.

Funding Central

Funding Central is a free smart website for the whole voluntary and community sector, including social enterprise, providing access to thousands of funding and finance opportunities, plus a wealth of tools and resources supporting organisations to develop sustainable income strategies appropriate to their needs.

Creative Industry Finance

Key Feature: This is an Arts Council England initiative offering business development support and access to finance to a wide range of creative and cultural enterprises, from micro-businesses through to major institutions.
Scale: Will consider applications for loans from as little £2,500 up to £15
Closes: there is no deadline for applying to Creative Industry Finance

Nesta Impact Investment

Key feature: An equity investment fund investing in social ventures with innovative products or services that are addressing some of the UK's most pressing challenges. Investments are made in areas that tackle:

  • The health and wellbeing of an aging population
  • An education attainment and employability of children and young people
  • The social and environmental sustainability of communities.

Scale: between £150k – £1m Closes: ongoing

"Smart" Grants for start-ups and small businesses
Key feature: A grant scheme which offers funding to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to engage in R&D projects in the strategically important areas of science, engineering and technology.
Scale: Proof of market – up to £25k – 60% of project cost
Proof of concept – up to £100k – 60% of project cost
Prototype development – up to £250k – up to 45% of project cost.

What are the Growth Vouchers?
A 50% voucher of up to £2,000 towards professional advice for your small business.

What is strategic advice?
Professional advice can help you to plan for changes, development and growth within your business. Some examples include; planning, recruitment, digital marketing, social media, financial investment strategies, and analysis of technology usage.

Am I eligible?
If you:

  • Have less than 249 employees
  • Are registered and trading in England
  • Have not paid for strategic advice or received less than 200,000 euros of public money in the last 3 years
