Have you ever thought that blind people can't play sports? Think again! Join us at the Mitchell & Kenyon Theatre on Thursday, May 9th at 6:00 PM for a FREE  eye-opening event titled "Blind people can’t play sport… can they?!"

We will debunk 5 of the most common misconceptions about visual impairment in sport, starting with the belief that blind individuals are unable to participate in athletic activities. Prepare to be amazed as we challenge stereotypes and showcase the incredible abilities of visually impaired athletes.

From the notion that you can’t do sports if you are blind, to the idea of developing compensatory superpowers. Explore how sport is designed and adapted for blind and partially sighted people, what barriers they face, and the empowering role sport can play in their lives.

Our free public lectures are held each month to ignite discussion and share interesting ideas and knowledge with everyone. Whether you’re a student, professional, or simply a knowledge seeker, our lectures are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone. They are a melting pot of thoughts and perspectives from diverse backgrounds.

Age Policy for UCLan events

Attendees Aged 16 and Above:

• We are pleased to welcome individuals who are 16 years of age or older to attend our events independently. This change in our policy reflects our commitment to making our events accessible to a wider audience, including young adults and students.

For Attendees Under 16 Years:

• All attendees under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. It's important that each child under 16 is with someone over 18 for the whole event. This ensures their safety and compliance with our event guidelines.

Content Warning:

• Please be aware that the content of our events may not always be suitable for children. While we strive to present engaging and informative material, we cannot guarantee that all content will be appropriate for those under the age of 16. We encourage parents and guardians to consider this when deciding whether to bring children to the event.

• During the event, it's possible that members of the audience may appear on camera or be captured in audio recordings, especially in moments of interaction or when relating to the lecture. However, the primary focus will always be on the lecturer and the content being delivered.
